Winchester Electric's history goes back to 1935. In that year the industrial electric motor was barely 50 years old. It had quickly replaced most all other means of driving the manufacturing equipment of Winchester's thriving industries. A young man named Dewitt Long was working in the Washington DC area in an electric motor repair shop. He had a good reputation and was encouraged by some of our local industries to move to Winchester. So the Long family, with assurances of plenty of work, moved to Winchester and started Winchester Electric Service. Terry Whitmire, President and Manager of Winchester Electric Service, was hired at Winchester Electric in 1974. Over the next 11 years, he progressed through all facets of the business and in 1986, he and his wife, Velma, purchased the company. Located in Fort Collier Industrial Park since 1996, Winchester Electric Service continues being a strong local business with consistent growth; thanks to great employees, customers and a strong local economy. Winchester Electric Service Inc. is committed to make the changes necessary to support the community's industries, farms and homes through the year 2000 and beyond. |
